2nd dive of 2014 2nd Lingcod of 2014. I punched this beast through the side with my polespear and he booked it for the opposite exit of the hole. I couldn't fight him long enough and I had to let go and swim for air. I didn't have a float line and when I came back the fish and the spear were gone. I scoured the area and found him holed up not far away. At this point I borrowed robs speargun and put him down. It took many drops to pull him out of the hole he was in with my spear still stuck in his side. Much thanks to Rob for supporting me on those drops. Fish was taken in 55' of water. |

I was reef diving with a little 50cm pea shooter when I came across this guy. After the shot, the ling snapped the cheap shaft at the notch and darted off. The vis was a rare 30+ feet so I was able to follow the fish from the surface. I gently drop down on the fish and with my gun useless, make a grab by digging my thumb and middle finger into its eye sockets and at the same time clamping my other hand around the wrist of its tail. Wrestled it to the surface and was finally able to dispatch it. Ling went a little over 38.25 inches. Not my biggest, but definitely my most memorable!

Nice day of diving with real crazy and seawalker. Everyone got sick it was one of those days. Saw this beast through a small hole. Shot it, tried to pull it out, couldn't, let it go and swam up to get air...got stoped five feet from the surface. My mono got tied up with the fish on my stringer. I pull the belt release and popped to the surface. Took me ten dives to get my stuff out and back on. Crazy fun day. Feels good to be alive. |

just got home and realized that the mouth wasn't visible on the main picture, and when i had the picture of the mouth closed, the mouth is not quite touching the end. so i'm calling it 27 instead of 28 to be safe. if this bothers anyone i will gladly go shoot a bigger one :D |
